Personally, I don’t understand why people what huge bathrooms, or two his/hers sinks (or other non-herteronormative equivalents). Things I want in my bathroom are warmth, light, and a towel within reach. And to not have a zillion little shampoo things fall down on me like my nightmare of being in antique shops.
To meet these goals we’ll have a big rectangular shower with a window facing outside to bring in natural light, a ledge in the shower for propping up a leg to shave, or setting a few toiletries, and radiant floor heat.

Richard has already bought electric radiant heat from a guy on craigslist and now we need to pick a flooring to go over it. And lots of tile for the shower. Luckily we spend a lot of our free time trolling Re-Stores for excellent deals and have picked flooring and accent tiles. The basic tiles will be white and easy to find anywhere.
While we liked the idea of mixing tile and wood for the floor, it’s hardly every done because it fails too easily– particularly over radiant heat which makes the wood expand and contract with temperature changes. So we have materials and will put them all together when the time comes… in September or so.
You know, like this, except with better light and 100 sq feet of white shower tile and actually totally awesome like the way my brain says it will be.
